Rosemary and I have just returned from working in the areas affected by the hurricanes. We were are Baton Rouge, La. Lake Jackson, Tx. and Galveston, Tx. While there was a lot of hurt and need, it was a blessing for us to minister to people. Mike, the Director of "Disaster Assistance" led us in a great effort. Often he would arise at 4:30 in the morning to begin the cooking process. The rest of us would show up about 7:30, but then it would be an all day work. When Rosemary and I left for the Sojourners Workshop at Camp B in Marshall, Tx. we had served some 11,000 meals and set up just over 500 bible studies. Folks were very interested and appreciative of the food, but they were also very interested in the bible studies. As I would take their name and telephone number for church contact for visitation and bible study, if I missed someone, they would look me up and say, "I want to sign up for bible study".
As you can see this was a rare opportunity to have so many interested in bible study. You can see that it would and did take a great effort to find those who could conduct these studies. Now while opportunities to have over 500 bible studies do not happen often, whether it's one study or several, there is a great need for preparing teachers for bible study. It will be our effort on this blog for sometime to give teaching as to how to set up bible studiess I certainly invite your comment. I just finished teaching several classes at Camp B that were very well received and were most helpful. I hope our classes together on the forth coming blog will be also. By the way bible teaching, personal work, community evangelism is a great help in church growth. We start tomorrow. Good Night Don
